Somewhere Animation (Mediawan Kids & Family) partners with Marla Studios to develop Temtem, the award-winning online creature collection phenomenon, into an animated TV series.
Paris, June 12th 2023 – Somewhere Animation (Mediawan Kids & Family) and Marla Studios announce their collaboration on a new comedy-adventure series based on the massively multiplayer creature collection game Temtem, developed by the Spanish studio Crema and released in 2020 on PC and consoles.
Drawing inspiration from the many great series in this genre, where collected creatures and their trainers engage in epic battles, Temtem brings a fresh perspective and revitalizes the style.
Sharing key values with the Japanese genre, such as friendship and surpassing oneself, Temtem stands out by placing the benefits of teamwork, not just simple duos, at its forefront. By pushing the humor and digging into the storylines, Temtem not only brings depth to its characters, it makes them fun and charming. Temtem’s motto: What makes us different makes us stronger together!
The writing direction for this 26-episode, 22-minute comedy-adventure series, targeting children aged 6 and above, will be led by showrunner Josh Hamilton, the writer of the award-winning series Avatar: The Last Airbender, which received the Kids' Choice Award for Best Animated Series in 2008.
"We are thrilled to collaborate with Marla Studios and Jean Julien Baronnet on this ambitious project and introduce the vast universe of Temtem to the world. Temtem draws inspiration from the Japanese genre while incorporating American writing, infusing it with freshness and modernity. Children will love experiencing the thrilling adventures of the characters. Through them, they will be able to collect Temtem and engage in exciting battles that will fuel their imagination", says Arthur Colignon, Producer and Founder of Somewhere Animation.
"We want to renew the genre with human characters coming from an incredible variety of culture interacting with mystical creatures in a way never seen before. It’s not every day that you get to have, as your best friend, a temtem who can attack with the power of a blizzard or summon lightning! With this show we want to balance the big, fun and epic elements of this adventure in a total new universe. Somewhere Animation is the best partner to achieve this goal!", declares Jean Julien Baronnet, Founder of Marla Studios.
Temtem’s pitch
In the Airborne Archipelago and with the loyal help of their furry or feathery Temtems, our heroes from different cultures must learn how to work together as a team pursuing exciting battles.
Because what makes them different that makes them stronger together!
Temtem up!
